For his War Closets, he transformed some of his 2006 war sketches into sculptures, putting into “closets” the futility, decay, and hardships of war. He juxtaposes this portrayal of desolation with another closet containing a wonderland of fantasy, a Dream Closet, hinting at the need to imagine a different world. Rarely, Karam depicts the horror of war without any possibility of relief, as in the case of his Mutual Agony sculpture, created in response to the Syrian war.
