ON PARADE

Desert X, Al-Ula, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

On Parade is part of Karam’s Borrowed Landscapes series, which merges elements of his lexicon with features he ‘appropriates’ from the environment where the project is implemented.

On Parade is inspired by the diverse fauna and flora of the Arabian Desert landscapes. The rocks of the desert and the shifting flux of its sands are the theatre for thousands of plants and animal life forms, which are visible only to those who intimately understand the desert. Karam’s visual language bears witness to the discreet wealth of desert life, and the linearity of the installation echoes the caravan processions of nomads who travelled the desert.
