CHOREOGRAPHY OF SPACE

Choreography of Space is a series of nine large works, which Karam painted in his new studio while the building was still being completed. The paintings are intimate reflections of Karam’s relation to the studio he designed, and its connection with his family and home on the upper terraces of the site. Karam explores concepts of personal physical and mental spaces and the action created for them, borrowing the names of paintings from the titles of contemporary dance pieces choreographed by William Forsythe, with a nod to Forsythe’s sculpture of space, light, and movement.
