FRAGILE

The Fragile series was inspired from Nadim Karam’s 2018 sketches addressing the plight of displaced peoples. Painted on the rough wooden panels of packaging crates which had carried his sculptures, the resulting works evoke the unstable conditions and uncertain prospects of migrants and refugees across the world.

Karam took care to keep the wooden panels of the crates as they were, leaving and emphasizing the stamps like “Fragile” within his works. This in itself was a reflection on the dichotomy between the process of transporting artworks handled carefully by experts and the harsh realities of transportation for the displaced.
